What are they, and why are they important?

Mango in a Tree and all Juniors Read titles target child literacy by focusing on dolch words also known as on-site words. Dolch words are the 220 most common words in the English language and comprise up to 70% of general text.

Children who show early mastery of these words are on their way to becoming strong readers. Go here to learn more about Dolch words. Juniors Read wanted to create books that were focused on literacy as much as the black aesthetic. We knew that it was important for black children to learn how to read while at the same lime seeing images that looked like them.

Juniors Read relies on rhyming text in each one of its stories. Each story takes on a different rhythmic style.
